16 May 2006 PR 6806 VICE LORD-LIEUTENANT APPOINTED
 
 

Well-known East Yorkshire businessman Tom Martin is to be appointed as Vice Lord-Lieutenant for the East Riding.

Her Majesty The Queen has approved his appointment, with effect from March 8.

Mr Martin was born in Hull and attended Bramcote School, Scarborough and Winchester College, Winchester.

In 1956, he attended Emmanuel College, Cambridge where he gained an MA in law and economics.

Mr Martin joined the family industrial company, ARCO Limited, in 1959. He retires this July as company chairman having fulfilled this role for more than 25 years.

From 1977-1984, he represented the St Mary’s Ward Beverley on Humberside County Council.

Mr Martin served as High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire from 1996-1997, appointed a Trustee of the High Sheriffs’ and Humberside Police Tribune Trust and became a Deputy Lieutenant for the East Riding of Yorkshire in 1998.

Mr Martin said: “Having been born here and having lived here all my life , I am most grateful for the opportunity to serve the city and the East Riding in support of the new Lord Lieutenant the Hon. Mrs Susan Cunliffe–Lister."

He is married to Anne, who was born in East Yorkshire, and is the current chair of NSPCC northern region appeal board. They have three daughters and one son.
