TEENAGERS WILL TEST THEIR SKILLS TO THE LIMIT
Be the first reader to comment on this story

09:10 - 03 February 2007

E Yorks: Almost 400 teenagers will test their skills to the limit in a midnight orienteering exercise.

Thirty-five teams from Hull and the East Riding will take part in the Humber Night Challenge next Saturday.

The challenge, which will take place in a North Lincolnshire woodland, aims to boost participants' confidence and teamwork skills.

Originally known as Nite Pilot, the scheme began in 1988 and ran until 2000.

It was run by the former Humberside County Council youth service.

Now, the exercise has been resurrected and participants, aged 14 to 19, will be challenged in endurance, commitment, teamwork, leadership, map-reading and first aid.

The event is sponsored by the Tribune Trust, the Prince's Trust and Yorkshire Forward and is organised by youth services from the four local authorities in the Humber region.

St John Ambulance, the Scout Association, youth service personnel from all four local authorities and Rotary clubs will staff the woodland and checkpoints.

Event co-ordinator Geoff Ogden said: "A lot of people taking part won't have done this before.

"It will involve young people from all kinds of backgrounds."
